Los estudiantes de cuarto grado culminaron con gran entusiasmo ExpoServiKids, un proyecto que integró los aprendizajes desarrollados a lo largo de las unidades de indagación «Cómo funciona el mundo» y «Cómo nos organizamos». Fue una experiencia en la que la creatividad, la innovación y el compromiso se convirtieron en herramientas para responder a las necesidades de la comunidad.

A lo largo de este proceso, los estudiantes exploraron conceptos relacionados con el consumo responsable y la prestación de servicios. Mediante la indagación, identificaron diferentes necesidades de su entorno y, a partir de ellas, pensaron en el servicio que deseaban ofrecer.

Una vez identificada la necesidad, llegó el momento de transformar sus ideas en soluciones. Los estudiantes pusieron en práctica sus conocimientos sobre máquinas simples y exploraron cómo diferentes mecanismos podían combinarse para construir una máquina compleja capaz de apoyar el servicio que habían diseñado. Este reto los llevó a imaginar, diseñar, construir, probar y mejorar sus propuestas, comprendiendo que la ingeniería y la innovación comienzan con una pregunta y una necesidad.

El proyecto también permitió integrar las habilidades matemáticas en un contexto real y significativo. Los estudiantes utilizaron sus conocimientos para elaborar y aplicar presupuestos relacionados con la creación de sus máquinas, tomando decisiones sobre materiales, costos y recursos. De esta manera, las matemáticas dejaron de ser únicamente un ejercicio de aula para convertirse en una herramienta fundamental para planear y hacer realidad sus proyectos.

ExpoServiKids fue, además, una oportunidad para fortalecer habilidades como la creatividad, la comunicación, la colaboración, la resolución de problemas y la toma de decisiones. Cada equipo enfrentó los desafíos propios de un proceso de diseño y aprendió que equivocarse, intentarlo nuevamente y buscar alternativas también forman parte del aprendizaje.

El resultado fue una experiencia llena de imaginación, compromiso y entusiasmo, en la que nuestros estudiantes demostraron que son capaces de observar su entorno, identificar necesidades y crear soluciones mediante los conocimientos adquiridos durante sus unidades de indagación.

Con ExpoServiKids, los estudiantes de cuarto grado no solo culminaron dos importantes unidades de aprendizaje, sino que también demostraron que aprender significa crear, transformar y poner el conocimiento al servicio de los demás.

ExpoServiKids: Imagination, Innovation, and Learning in Service of the Community

Fourth-grade students enthusiastically celebrated the culmination of ExpoServiKids, an exciting project that brought together the learning developed throughout the Units of Inquiry “How the World Works” and “How We Organize Ourselves.” It was an experience in which creativity, innovation, and commitment became tools for responding to the community’s needs.

Throughout this learning journey, students explored important concepts related to responsible consumption and service provision. Through a process of inquiry, they identified different needs within their community and reflected on the type of service they could provide to help address them.

Once they had identified a need, students began transforming their ideas into possible solutions. They applied their knowledge of simple machines and explored how different mechanisms could work together to create a complex machine designed to support the service they had planned. This challenge encouraged them to imagine, design, build, test, and improve their creations while discovering that engineering and innovation can begin with a simple question and a real-world need.

The project also provided an authentic opportunity to apply mathematical skills in a meaningful context. Students developed and used budgets while planning and constructing their machines, making decisions about materials, costs, and available resources. In this way, mathematics became an essential tool for planning and bringing their ideas to life.

ExpoServiKids also helped students strengthen important skills such as creativity, communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and decision-making. Each team faced challenges throughout the design process and discovered that making mistakes, trying again, and finding alternative solutions are all valuable parts of learning.

The final exhibition was a celebration of imagination, commitment, and innovation. Our fourth-grade students demonstrated their ability to observe the world around them, identify needs, and create meaningful solutions by applying the knowledge and skills developed throughout their Units of Inquiry.

With ExpoServiKids, our students did more than simply complete two important Units of Inquiry; they demonstrated that learning also means creating, transforming, and using knowledge to make a positive contribution to the community.
